Our class discussed important aspects about disability in our society.
People with disabilities are capable and powerful. Using this idea, we were
able to change our perspective around people with special needs. Group 1
presented on physical impairments, spinal cord disability and brain
disabilities; on the other hand, Group 2 developed vision and hearing
impairments and finally Group 3 worked on learning disabilities, psychological
disorders, and invisible disabilities.
Group one discussed physical impairments, spinal cord disability and brain disabilities. In order to do this, they used a google slides presentation. Unlike other groups, this team used a useful technological idea. They recorded they voices while presenting, which made the presentation smoothly and clear. Essentially, they talked about history, the agencies involved and the importance of disabilities rights. In addition, they played two interesting videos that effectively gave us an overview on physical impairments and brain disabilities. As a matter of fact, the students had a good organization of the ideas and topics. From their interesting themes to their confidence while presenting, group one impressed many of us.
Group two integrated by me,
presented on vision and hearing impartments. I have to say that working on this
presentation was exciting. We created an inspirational video to help people
with disabilities believe in themselves. Basically, each one of us made a short
video saying a motivational quote while holding a paper with a key word on it. After
putting it the together, we expressed the concept that everyone is a unique
person created for a specific purpose. In addition, we performed several interviews.
The ACCESS department was highly informative about what MDC has to offer. Together
with this, having the opportunity to interview both a blind a deaf person was extremely
helpful. Finally, we made a poster and a brochure in order to encourage others
to support people with disabilities.
Group three on the other hand worked
on learning disabilities, psychological disorders, and invisible disabilities. They
intended for their audience to have a better knowledge of people with these
types of impairments. As stated by the students, your present circumstances do
not determine where you can go. By coordinating their ideas and providing quality
content, group three did well on the presentation. The videos that Group 3 used
in their speech were really enjoyable. In addition, they worked as a team to
deliver a message, which I believe they were able to accomplish. People need to
persuade others to make a difference in our communities. Many people out there
need our support.
Thanks to these presentations we have
made tremendous progress improving our speech skills. I am proud of myself
since being able to present confidently in front of a large audience was not
something easy for me before. This being said, groups one, two, and three
performed an incredible job discussing their topics. Additionally, the support
materials used by the students were very impressive and professional. Although,
we had a few technical difficulties, the overall outcome for this presentation
was remarkably high.
