Darian Uriarte's Feedback

Last week Professor Sherri Sinkoff asked their students to present on different topics related to the fundamentals of speech. This summer, class 2989 gathered together into groups to discuss three of the chapters of a remarkable book. Presentations has always been used to express ideas and to share knowledge around on a specific topic. Using this valuable tool, we were able to learn helpful content that will help us in the professional field.  Group 1 presented on chapter 3, Group 2 developed chapter 9 and finally Group 3 worked on chapter 10.

Group one integrated by 12 students performed a great job explaining chapter 3. They used a power point presentation, which is nowadays a powerful tool in the learning environment. This chapter describes several topics around Intercultural Communication. No matter where you are in the world, communication is important, but communicating across cultures can be really difficult. In addition, they played two interesting videos that effectively gave us an overview on culture and communication. As a matter of fact, the students had a good organization of the ideas and topics. From their perfectly designed slides to their confidence while speaking, group one captured the audience attention.

Group two was integrated by 13 students. In fact, I was a member of it. Our topic was Communicating in Groups. I have to say that working on this presentation was fun. We created a WhatsApp group to be better prepared and organize our topic. From that moment, it was a constant rain of ideas. We worked as a team to deliver quality content, which I believe we were able to accomplish. We all belong to many formal and informal groups. Although each group has a different purpose, one thing all groups have in common is that their effectiveness depends on communication. Focusing on this idea, we broke down and developed chapter 9.

Group three on the other hand was integrated by 12 students. All their work was centered around chapter 10. This chapter is about leadership and problem solving. As stated by the students, when groups work effectively to solve problems, they generate greater breadth and depth of ideas, promote positive group morale, and increase productivity. This is definitely the reason why group three did so well on the presentation. Covering aspects such as effective communication problem solutions, and methods for communicating results, group three successfully explained chapter 10. The overall standard of this presentation was very high, and I was impressed at how much content they developed.

A presentation is a helpful tool to express ideas and discus a given topic. The main aim of this activity was to explain several aspects regarding communication and to practice team working skills. This being said, groups one, two, and three performed an incredible job discussing their topics. Additionally, the support materials used by the students were very impressive and professional. They clearly did a lot of work preparing for this presentation. Due to their dedication, Professor Sherri evaluated all the students with an A.
